Natural Gas

Ohio has mostly deregulated natural gas and electric utilities meaning you can purchase natural gas and electricity using the same transmission lines but from alternative providers to keep the costs competitive. This means you can lock in a lower cost for your gas and electric but these companies often default to high rates after your contract ends.  We recommend setting a calendar reminder and locking in the best rate when or prior to your contract ending.  Your gas service provider is who owns the gas lines going to your house.

Natural gas -- I have Columbia gas and locked in my natural gas rate at $0.499/ccf with Utility Gas and Power starting 10/1/25 for 12 months. This option includes a fixed rate, no monthly fee, and $150 termination fee

10/1/25  It looks like the lowest cost is $4.29 for 12 months**more than Enbridge current** per mcf for Dominion customers with Ohio Gas & Electric. This option includes a fixed rate, no monthly fee, and no termination fee

Natural Gas -- Here's how to check your options
First,  Find out what your price to compare is on your utility bill.  Do you have a contract with a provider already? If yes, when does the contract expire and is there an early termination penalty? Once you know this info, you can use those numbers to compare to the current offers.

1. Click here: energychoice.ohio.gov/ApplesToApplesCategory.aspx?Category=NaturalGas

2. Click on the whether you're residential or commercial and select your natural gas provider (typically Columbia gas or Enbridge - previously Dominion in our area - Northeast Ohio)

3. Take note of what your current gas provider is offering, which is spelled out like this:

Service provider: Columbia:
CGO's SCO rate is $0.6085 per ccf - Effective September 29, 2025 through October 27, 2025.
CGO’s SCO rate was $0.6117 per ccf - Effective August 28, 2025 through September 28, 2025

Service provider: Enbridge:
Enbridge's SCO rate is $3.367 per MCF - Effective September 11, 2025 through October 9, 2025.

Enbridge's SCO rate was $3.581 per MCF - Effective August 12, 2025 through September 11, 2025.
To sign back up with Enbridge, call their customer service number: 1-800-362-7557

4. Scroll down until you see the red search bar/options

5. Click on $/ccf (Columbia gas)  or $/mcf (Dominion) once to arrange the options from least to most expensive (you'll know this is ordered appropriately if the arrow under $/ccf is facing down and the price per ccf is increasing as you scroll down)

6. Next find the lowest fixed rate, with no monthly fee, and no or a reasonable termination fee

7. Click on the sign up link to lock in this rate, presuming it's lower than what you're paying now.

10/1/25 I locked in my electric rate at $0.0829/kwh for 12 months , 100% renewable electricity, with Energy Harbor LLC energy for 12 months. This option includes a fixed rate, no monthly fee, and no termination fee

If you'd like the cheapest, currently it's $0.0760/kwh for 12 months with Atlantic Energy MD, LLC. This option includes a fixed rate, no monthly fee, and a $75 termination fee
